Great Bay Herons Fall to CMCC Mustangs in Four-Set Road Match
Auburn, ME – The Great Bay Community College women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought Yankee Small College Conference matchup to Central Maine CC on Wednesday evening, falling 3–1 at Kirk Hall Gymnasium.
Set scores were 25–19, 25–16, 23–25, and 25–15 in favor of the Mustangs. With the result, Great Bay moves to 0–2 on the season, while CMCC improves to 3–0.
After dropping the first two sets, the Herons showed resilience in the third, rallying for a 25–23 victory behind strong serving and timely defense. However, the Mustangs regrouped and closed out the match with a decisive fourth set.
Offensively, Isabella Sherman led the way for Great Bay with 7 kills and 8.0 total points, while Isabella Raiti contributed 6 kills, 17 assists, and 3 service aces for 9.0 points. Taylor Briand added 5 kills and a team-high 10 digs, and Daniela Montenegro Sarmiento chipped in 4 kills and 16 digs.
In total, the Herons recorded 25 kills, 23 assists, and 58 digs, showing improvement in defensive coverage throughout the match.
CMCC was powered by Isabella Higgins, who tallied 11 kills on .368 hitting, while setter Keliah Stith dished out 19 assists and added 5 aces.
Great Bay will look to bounce back in its next YSCC contest as the Herons continue their early-season schedule.
