Great Bay Falls to Southern Maine in Game One of Doubleheader
South Portland, ME – The Great Bay Community College Herons dropped the first game of a doubleheader against the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves, falling 6–4 on Saturday, September 13th, at SMCC's South Portland campus.
The Herons struck first in the opening frame when AJ Francisco doubled to left, driving in Jose Diaz. Great Bay added two more runs in the third on a clutch double by Manny Sanchez, scoring Preston Hutchings and Miles Murray. Rhett Dyer crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the fourth to give Great Bay its final run of the day.
Southern Maine countered quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by RBI hits from Landon Sirois and Thomas Marcotte. The Seawolves extended their lead with a run in the third and two more in the fourth, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Marcotte finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead SMCC's offense.
On the mound, Tyler Quadros (0–1) worked four innings for the Herons, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out one. Collin McGovern was strong in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
For Southern Maine, starter Zach Kassim went three innings, while reliever Carter Collin (1–0) picked up the win and Mattias Cobham closed the door with a four-strikeout save.
Great Bay tallied five hits, with Hutchings leading the way, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sanchez and Francisco each drove in runs with doubles, while Murray and Hutchings swiped a base apiece.
The Herons (0–1) continue their Yankee Small College Conference schedule with game two of the doubleheader immediately following Saturday's opener.

Great Bay Drops Game Two to Southern Maine, 11–3
South Portland, ME – The Great Bay Community College Herons fell in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Southern Maine Community College, losing 11–3 at the South Portland campus on September 13th.
The Herons pushed across three runs on five hits but were undone by defensive miscues, committing five errors that led to big innings for the Seawolves.
Southern Maine broke the game open in the middle frames, scoring three runs in the third and five in the fourth. Alex Bartlett paced the Seawolves' offense with three hits, including a two-run double, finishing with three RBIs. Thomas Marcotte added two hits and an RBI, while Quinntin Gillies reached base three times, scoring three runs and driving in one.
For Great Bay, Zach Bradford and Jose Diaz each scored, while Mikey Giovanditto drove in a run with a fifth-inning RBI single. Giovanditto and Logan Perrault also swiped bases for the Herons.
On the mound, Landon Wolusky (0–1) made his first start of the season, allowing seven earned runs over three innings. Relievers Pierre Mendez, Miles Murray, and Collin McGovern combined to finish the game, with McGovern tossing two solid innings, allowing just one unearned run and striking out two.
The Seawolves' pitching staff held the Herons in check, as starter Jacob Watkinson (1–0) earned the win with four innings of two-run ball, and relievers Noah Gaghan and Nate Violette closed the door.
With the sweep, Great Bay moves to 0–2 on the season in Yankee Small College Conference play. The Herons will look to rebound in their next series.
