Great Bay Men's Basketball starts Conference play with 89–67 Victory Over Word of Life

Pottersville, NY – The Great Bay Community College men's basketball team captured its first win of the 2025–26 season on Friday night, defeating the Word of Life Huskies 89–67 in a Yankee Small College Conference matchup at the Huskies Health & Athletic Center.

The Herons (1–1, 1–0 YSCC) used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant second half to pull away from the Huskies (1–2, 1–1). After leading by just three at halftime, 41–38, Great Bay outscored Word of Life 48–29 in the final 20 minutes to seal the conference victory.

Sophomore forward Dylan Rego led all scorers with a standout performance, pouring in 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting while also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jaylen Shelly and Tyson Rogers each added 11 points, while Stephen Gitau chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Guard Chase Frizzell turned in an all-around effort with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, and Roderick Dominique provided a spark off the bench with 8 points and strong perimeter defense.

As a team, the Herons shot an efficient 46.1% from the field, dished out 21 assists, and dominated the boards with 49 rebounds to Word of Life's 30.

For the Huskies, Xander Eason led the scoring with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Ross Wilkins added 15 points off the bench.

Great Bay returns to action next week as the Herons continue YSCC play on the road at CMCC before hosting their home opener later this month, on Sunday, Nobember 16th vs Albany College of Pharmacy.
